Wow...It's hard to believe that Valentine's day is just around the corner! How did that happen? I haven't even had a chance to look through my Christmas photos, yet :).

Anyhow...I wanted to offer you a Valentine's Day special. I love having personalized little cards for my kids to give away...so much better than the usual throw away ones ;-). Happy Birthday Hannah [San Diego Photographer]

We celebrated Hannah's 8th birthday yesterday. We are so blessed to have our little Hawaiian girl (she was born there when we were stationed there). The party theme was her idea because she loves everything Hawaiian even though, I doubt she even remembers Hawaii. Thanks to all our wonderful friends who came and partied with us & made Hannah's day super special!

Sorry if it's a little bit of overload, but I really loved this session! We were on the beach by the Hotel Del Coronado for the session...this is such an amazing location! And with it being cold (at least in San Diego terms), there wasn't too many people to get in the way :). These two are going to be such great parents. Baby Liam is already so blessed and loved! Can't wait to meet that little guy!

I feel like I double post because I first post to my facebook page, but I hate to neglect the good ol' blog. Anyhow...these are some of my favorite shots from yesterday at Pacific Beach. I had so much fun shooting under the pier. Next time I will bring a tripod to get the glassy wave shot! The sky photos from from this evening. I had never seen these circular clouds, but they looked really cool. Oh...and I love my Andrew with his plane. He is really into airplanes and wants to be a fighter pilot when he grows up. He says that when he retires from that, he'll own an airplane museum. I hope all his dreams come true!

I finally have a little studio room set up in the house! I can't even begin to tell you how exciting that is for me. For all these years, I've had to pack my equipment away. It's always such a hassle to set up and break down every time I want to shoot. Now, I can leave it up for good! My two kiddos got the honor of being the first to be photographed in my tiny studio :). Then, this sweet little angel baby came by for the first full session. She was perfectly well behaved and didn't cry at all. She slept most the time, and let me put her in all kinds of positions, too!

I had the privilege of photographing my favorite little guy and his family today. We headed to a beautiful canyon here in San Diego. I love the grass, trails and old trees there. Wow...I didn't realize how I have neglected my blog until Mom told me the other day :). So this is my attempt to bring you all up to date with everything.

Where to begin? I guess I should start with the most asked question...Why am I not shooting much anymore? Am I still working? The short answer...Yes! I'm still here and in business. The long answer is a little more complicated, but here goes. It's all Hannah's fault!! Just kidding ;-). Actually, Hannah had been asking me for several years if I could "just sign her up for the Disney channel." I kept trying to explain to her that it doesn't quite work that way. However, after some wonderful contacts with a few different people, things fell in place for her to start doing auditions up in LA for commercials and ad work. So the past few months we have been going up to LA two to three times a week for her to do auditions and call backs. So far she hasn't booked anything...although she did get put on avail for one project :). We're keeping our fingers crossed that she'll do well because this has been her dream for a long time now.

So Yes...I'm still shooting however with the unpredictable nature of her adventures, I can't book sessions in advance. In an attempt to keep shooting, I'm posting on my facebook page any days that I'm available for last minute sessions. I know...it's not the best, but I'm doing these sessions for free!! I'm also going to be offering digital images, and I hope that makes up for it! So if you want a session with me...email me to let me know the days that work well for you. Then, I can work with you to make that happen!

Now that that's out of the way...Merry Christmas! I can't believe it's already come and gone. Oh wait...Did I ever say Happy Thanksgiving? We spent Thanksgiving in Texas, and when we got back home Christmas seemed just to fly by. I LOVE Christmas so much! Such a magical time. Both the kids say that it's their favorite holiday now, too! I guess all the Pandora Christmas music really got to them :). Anyhow...Here are a few images of my family. It's scary how fast they are growing up! The kids are 9 & 7, and I have gray hair!! Oh my goodness...why can't I find the pause button on life?!

And Happy New Year! Our family went through a lot of ups and downs this year. And in the end, God always brought us out on top and with a renewed faith. We made it through our first deployment. It was tough at the time, but it really strengthened our family. Through it all we've made some beautiful friendships that are truly providential. It has been such a blessing to be able to see God's hand at work in our lives this year, and it makes me excited to see what the future holds.

Just sharing a couple of my favorites from our session Saturday at Balboa park. These guys are such a nice family...loving & fun! Thanks for meeting me at the park. It seemed extra busy that day. I stopped and watched a wedding on my way out and saw several other brides there having their portraits taken as well. However, I understand why so many people choose this park for the photo sessions....it's gorgeous! I would have had to work hard to find a background that wasn't nice. This fun little dude is turning 3 in just a few days. We headed out to the old NTC area for a "playfully simple" photo session. What does that mean? Well....pretty much that the kids call the shots. This is always a fun age because there is absolutely no way that I can predict what's going to happen next. It also means that mom will be in for a surprise because she usually doesn't think that any of the images are going to turn out, but guess what....I got that ;-). I think we got some super fun shots...I love the screaming one and the marching one (see I told you I can never predict anything) & we got the sweet smile, too!

This is a long time friend of mine and her family. Her husband just deployed, but before he left I got to capture a few smiles. The best thing I did before Simon left 5 months ago was make him pose for pictures for me. I love those photos! Where they technically perfect - of course not! They were us...us as a family, the kids wrapping their arms around their Daddy, memories that come rushing back every time I see a photo from that day. My favorite part about being a photographer is being able to give that gift to the families that trust me to capture those memories for them. My Kiddos in Texas [San Diego Photographer]

Up the road from my parents house is a cute little country store called the Store & Moore. They used to sell gas when I was a teenager. I remember because my parents had a charge account there, and all I had to do was pump my gas and wave at the person inside before I drove off. I'd be in jail if I tried to do that at a gas station now days ;-). Well, now they have a little restaurant inside that makes the best burgers and has other specials through out the week. They always draw a big lunch crowd for such a little place. So all that to tell you that the store was the location for the kids photo shoot. It was fun and relaxed and the kids had a blast just being kids there!

On another note, it's been 4 months without Simon now. Somehow time has flown by, and I am so thankful for that. The kids seem like they have changed so much in the time that he's been gone. It's not fair that he's missing so much, but all this time away is really putting things in our lives into perspective. I'm thankful for the littlest things that I used to take for granted with him. It absolutely makes my day to get a 10 minute phone call from him, and to be able to Skype for just a little while makes my heart smile! Half way done with this deployment, and I can't wait for Hannah's welcome home surprise party that she's planning. I can tell you about the party because she doesn't exactly understand the concept of a surprise party - she told Simon she was planning it :).

Earlier this week, I took a quick visit to the New Orleans area to meet up half way with some very dear friends of ours. Of all the different aspects of the military life, I don't think I'll ever get used to watching friends move away or having to say good bye ourselves. However, it was the military that introduced us in the first place so I should actually be saying how thankful I am to have had the opportunity to meet such awesome friends! And while we were catching up, I did a quick session for another little guy that you may remember from the blog as well. It's so nice to have wonderful clients, and that was one of the hardest parts about leaving NOLA. Starting my business from the ground up again has had it's challenges, but I hope to be coming out on top soon :)! Well...that's enough words for now...enjoy the photos!

I got to photograph 3 great families today. First, I met with this new sweet little guy who is just about 7 weeks old. Such a cutie...isn't he :)! He has a super fun big brother, too. Then, I went to Santee Lakes to photograph two other families. They were great! And since the park closed just an hour after we got there, they were some awesomely quick posers ;-). My Hero - Mini Session [San Diego Photographer]

Hi friends! I've got a fun mini session planned for the end of this month. I've been working to get this one set up for a while now, and I'm so excited to finally share it with you! First off...you may be wondering what a mini session is exactly. Well, it's basically just a short and sweet session with me. This session will just last between 15-20 minutes since the set up will the same for all images. You can expect to see 5-10 final images in a password protected gallery that you can share with family and friends. You'll also get one image that will be shared on my blog that you can use for online use. The online gallery will be active for 4 days for you to choose which image you want to use for your small print collection and to order any addition prints.

Now that you know what a mini session is let me tell you about the theme of this session. It's "My Hero". Since these sessions will be held on base at Miramar, I'm thinking that most people will choose to bring in some type of military uniform, but don't let that limit your thinking. Any job that requires a uniform would be perfect for this type of session - nurse, fireman, police, etc. I can't wait to see what you all come up with!

Andrew helped me with my new lighting setup...it's going to be so much fun! And he was such a great little model :)

My sweet girl in my little studio. She was a great little poser. She loves being in front of the camera....when she wants to ;-).

And this is Mr. B...He's Hannah's new boyfriend. Well, actually they got married. It was really a cute little ceremony. They colored paper rings and exchanged them with an, "I marry you." Then Hannah gave him a big kiss on the cheek with moms' yelling, "NO!"

He is quite handsome. Hannah thinks is great that they look alike, too! She even emailed her Daddy and told him all about it.

Our Wednesday Friend [San Diego Photographer]

So my mom informed me today that I haven't blogged in a long time, and I guess she was right :). Sorry, I'm not keeping as updated as I should. I've been running spring promotion in hopes of building up my business once again (look back a few posts to see the details). This move has been harder to rebound from than the last. I'm planning on doing a studio mini session for my military clients at the community center soon! I'm hoping that it will be the perfect time for Mother's/Father's Day, but I'll post more on that later.

For now....let me tell you about our little Wednesday friend. This is little B. He's also been on the blog before so you may recognize him. He comes to play with the kids while his mommy goes to class. The kids just love him! Hannah sings her songs to him, and he really listens. Oh...and you should see Andrew with him. He has such a gentle spirit and is so wonderful with babies.

So isn't he just a little cutie! He just celebrated his 1st birthday, too! Enjoy :)

After 2 full beach days, I came to the realization that I HAD to get Hannah's hair cut! She literally had one big dread-lock which was once a pretty pony tail! So after spending over an hour untangling the mess, I took her to a cute little kid's salon. She actually got about 3 inches cut off! So here are a few photos of the actual cut and then her impromptu photo session this afternoon :)

It's been 10 years since I had last walked through Balboa Park...until today! I photographed this wonderful, young couple this afternoon in the San Diego's most beautiful park. These two are getting ready to say goodbye because he will soon be deploying with Simon. I'm so happy that I was able to capture these happy moments between them before their separation.

Umm...lots more images than I usually preview, but I just couldn't pick a favorite. These are my top 5 favorites...i think ;-). It was fun photographing a couple for a change. I love my babies and kiddos, but it's nice to have subjects that do what I tell them to do :)

Simon's RC Plane Adventures [San Diego Photographer]

Simon took his new remote control plane to the air strip on Camp Pendleton today. The runway is landing zone for helicopters so the club can only use it on the weekends, and with the nice weather today, the place was packed with all sorts of planes and helicopters. The club president helped Simon make sure he was all setup right and even helped him fly it :). The kids thought it was cool for a few minutes, but the sand was where they choose to stay.

I photographed a sweet little family today at the community center in my neighborhood. It turned out to be a beautiful spot for pictures. The weather was great, but it did have a little chill in the air so we kept the session short and sweet....can't have this precious little girl getting too cold!

I just wanted to share a few snapshots. We are enjoying spending time together as a family before the deployment which is coming way too fast.

From our day at the San Diego Zoo

We went out to visit the grave site of our beloved guinea pig Ron. He passed away the day after Christmas this past year. We buried him down by the pond in a nice, pretty spot. Hannah said a prayer and made Simon pray, too :)

On another note...this would be an awesome photo spot for those of you with base access!
I LOVE this image! It's so THEM. I was laying on the couch watching TV when I saw them...the computer was just lighting up their face and I had to capture it! Andrew is for sure a Daddy's Boy. They love playing video games and watching youtube videos of rc planes and trucks.

We had another great day today up in Oceanside. The kids got to play at that awesome park on Camp Pendleton while the boys fished. Later, we headed to the beach so I could take our friends' family photos. The kids had so much fun running and playing in the sand and water! Photographing at such a fun place sure makes things easy :) We even got to watch the beautiful sunset...I couldn't have asked for a better day!

We are in the middle of a wonderful weekend here in San Diego! Yesterday, we had a family fun day. We started the day watching Hannah cheer at the basketball game. Then, we headed up to Camp Pendleton to our favorite little lake. Simon and Andrew had fun in Simon's new small boat. It's just perfect for that size lake, and it fits right in the back of his truck :). While the guys were fishing, Hannah and I had a blast at the new playground. It was so cool...it had artificial turf and everything! But, the day wasn't over, yet. So after we had dinner, we went to the base theater to see Avatar. It was a great movie, and you can't beat getting the whole family into the movies for just $7 !! I love MCCS :) . Today we had nice relaxing Valentine's Day. Simon got me and Hannah some beautiful flowers, and we all got chocolates...my fave!! Simon got breakfast in bed, and then we had a fun day of Wii playing. Just before sunset, we headed to the Bay View on MCRD for a few family photos. We were way over due in updating our family picture, and I had to be sure to do this before Simon deploys. I had planned on beach pictures, but with it being a beautiful day on a holiday weekend, that plan was spoiled. When we were within a mile of the beach, traffic was at a stand still! Oh well...I think we found a beautiful spot that was completely empty :) And the best part is that Simon has tomorrow off, too! Who knows what we'll get into then!

Today the kids and I visited La Jolla and a few of their beautiful beaches. I have to admit that bribing them with a visit to the beach is a great way to get them to finish their school work quickly :). Anyhow...we started the day at the Cave Store. They have a staircase inside the store that goes down inside the cliff to a cave at the beach. I never thought I was claustrophobic until I got about half way down the 145 stairs. My legs were literally shaking! But, it was a beautiful sight to see. Now the climb back up the stairs...well, let's just say I skipped the gym tonight ;-). So after the cave, we headed to the beach because the kids were just dying (oh, I mean whining) to go in the water. It was a little chilly, but as you can see from the photos they didn't notice.

Today was a first for us....Hannah Jane got to cheer with a team for the first time! I signed her up for cheerleading on base. I am so proud of how much they do for the kids. We have a wonderful coach who gives a lot of time to the girls...oh, and of course, Hannah just loves her! Today was the first basketball game. They looked so cute, and they all did a wonderful job :)

The kids like this water area the best at the aquarium. You move around the little slats to create different water currents. Then you float your boat!

Just posting some images of this past week when it wasn't so rainy :). I do have to admit that I love San Diego's "winter storm" weather...LOL! I don't really understand how you could call this weather a storm. To me a storm means, "Watch out here comes a tornado!" Just lots of rain and a little wind really isn't a storm, but I guess for San Diego, it is. I mean it was enough of a change to make the news :)

Anyhow....These are some random pictures of the kids playing and our visit to the aquarium. I have to confess....The New Orleans aquarium is so much more fun! The kids still had a good time. We've got a map of the local tidal pools and hopefully once all the weather passes, we'll go exploring! They also do whale watching tours, and we are so doing that!

I love the sunsets that we see everyday from the front of our house!

So I'm finally starting to come out of my slump that I've been in lately. I took a little break from the camera after the move. It turned out to be a little longer than I planned, but I think that it was really for the best. I recently have been taking more images just for me and our family. It's making me really love photography again! All but the last of these images were taken at Torrey Pines Beach. The kids and I also took a little hike on one of the trails...it was totally beautiful!

I'm also starting to do portfolio building (PB) sessions in the next few weeks. I'm going to keep a light load for now since Simon will be deploying to Afghanistan in the next couple of months. We're going to be trying to make the most of out of everyday before he goes. Anyhow...email me through the contact form on my website if you are interested in a PB session.

So the other day, my friend and I got a chance to take the kiddos to the beach for their Christmas photo sessions. We ended up at Coronado Island near the Hotel Del Coronado. It was so a lovely spot and just picture perfect! The kids had a blast running in and out of the water and playing in the sand. I can tell that I'm going to love working here in San Diego! So many fun ideas to try out!

The BIG Trip

We took 4 days to drive from East Texas to San Diego. And since we've done that drive so, so many times before (when we lived here years ago), we decided to take a northern and more scenic route. I'm so glad we did because it was such a beautiful drive and we even got to detour a little to see the Grand Canyon!

It was so COLD this day! When we got there, it was almost raining and very overcast. They told us that we may not be able to see anything. Thankfully, we got there early and we saw a little bit through the fog. As we were driving away, we heard the news say that it was going to snow!

The night before we went to the Grand Canyon we stayed at the cutest little town on the historic Rt. 66... Williams, Arizona. The kids loved it because we they thought that was where Lightning McQueen was. They had the coolest little diners and a gas station that had a cool old car on display.

Not sure where...First time we saw mountains on the trip, though :)

I have to admit there were times when the road just would end and all seemed to be a big blur like this...

Texas Sessions

Yes...I'm still alive :). We've made the big move and are finally settled into our new place in San Diego. So far, we're loving it! I'll tell you more about California later, but for now I wanted to catch everyone up with the Texas sessions that I did last month. These are all my family and friends in Henderson, and I'm so glad that I was able to do these photos for them before we moved so far away!

On last sweet New Orleans family to showcase before the move. I first photographed this little guy when he was just one! Then when I saw him at 2, he was a little timid and shy. Now...he's quite outgoing! He has even become a big brother! Watching my little clients bloom is one of my favorite parts of my job. I'll definitely miss all my wonderful little kiddos here in Louisiana.

I can't believe that a year has passed since I last photographed little Miss K. She's such a fun little girl and she loves being in front of the camera! A few weeks ago we took a little family vacation to visit our friends and old neighbors in Tampa, Florida. We had a wonderful visit and had so much fun at the beach! Being a military family, we are used to saying bye to friends. This time was different. You don't often meet people who you just seem to click with....husbands and kids, too :). So we had to make a trip to visit them before we picked up and moved cross country to California. I'm so thankful that we live in the age of technology, and we are only a phone call or email away.

Christy...you guys have to come see us in San Diego, next :)....Love yall!

We had quite a full day today! It all started at Jackson Square in the French Quarter, New Orleans. Let me tell you....it was HOT and Steamy even at 9:30! I met a great family for some posing in front of the cathedral, and then photographed a little girl on the move. Then we took a break and went to Chuck E. Cheese for Andrew's birthday, and followed that up with a trip to WalMart so he could spend his Birthday money. Later, I met up with another little cutie for her photo session. She was full of some awesome expressions!

We are Moving...

Sorry for neglecting the blog lately. This summer has kept our family so busy! It's a good thing, but it just seems like there's never enough hours in the day. Here's a little glimpse into our summer so far.

We still do homeschool, but we are taking a lot more breaks than we normally would.

Andrew got a crazy, fun cut for the summer!

The 4th of July was fun. We went out by the levee and popped some fire crackers. We were safe, too...notice the fire extinguisher :)

Oh...and I can't leave out the month of June. Andrew swam for the base swim team.

He was at the pool 4 days a week for the whole month!

And a little recent work to throw in...My friend was nice enough to bring her baby over and model for me. I had image in my mind, and it was nice to get to create it with her.

Oh...I forgot mention that Andrew had music camp for two weeks last month. He had a blast learning to play the guitar, drums and piano! I've also just finished up taking an online course. I'm trying to finish up my bachelor's degree. It actually seems really close now...so that's exciting! But...oh my goodness...Let me tell you how crazy a 5 week course was with everything else going on! I did finish it, though. I made a strong B. Still a little upset it wasn't an A because of all the time I put into it, but a B is still good. We've also had visitors this summer! My cousin and her family came down, and we had fun exploring New Orleans together. Then, Simon's parents came down for his PROMOTION!! Did you hear that...Simon got promoted!! We are all so excited that he picked up Gunny!!!

Well...I'm sure I've left something out :), but you're caught up for the most part. Stay tuned for more of our summer adventures :). When this heat starts to cool off, I'll have more sessions available, too!

Good Friends [Belle Chasse Photographer]

Saying goodbye to good friends is always the hardest part of being a military family. This week we had to say goodbye to our good friends - Christy, Perry, PJ, and Lennea. We are going to really miss having them so close, but I know that we'll always remain part of each others' lives. Thank goodness for the email and cell phones :). The kids (especially Andrew) had a hard time dealing. Andrew loves PJ, and they were so close eventhough there is a 3 year age difference between them. Oh...and Hannah just loves Christy! She always knew she could get anything (i.e. sweets) from her :). It was fun going places together, too. Hannah and PJ looked so much like brother and sister. People would always talk to Christy about her little redheads...especially after Lennea came along with her redhair, too. And of course, I'm going to truly miss Christy! It's rare to find such a great friend who really gets you. I love that we were on the same page with our parenting style and just the general way we look at life. And one of the coolest parts of it all was that the guys were friends, too. They could go fishing while we got to do the girly stuff :).

In any case, I respect very much the reason for your move, and think you are right where God wants you to be. I believe in the power of prayer, and I am keeping you all in my prayers everyday! We can't wait to come see you guys and go to the beach! We love you all!
